Alzheimers patients gradually lose their memories, their comprehension, and the ability to care for themselves. Alzheimers disease is the most common cause of dementia in Western countries. It is mainly a disease of the elderly. In the US, Alzheimers disease can be found in one-tenth of people older than 65 years, almost half of those over 85 years, and two-thirds of elderly nursing-home patients.
